< Back Main Settings Overlay Settings TSD Overlays Print PostedApril 10, 2025 UpdatedApril 10, 2025 ByTSDadmin The TurboSubdomains WordPress plugin includes a powerful Overlay feature that allows you to create, manage, and display popup overlays on your website. These overlays can be triggered based on time spent on the page, scroll behavior, exit intent, or custom conditions. This guide explains each section in detail, with practical examples to help you configure overlays effectively. All Overlays – View and manage existing overlays. Add New Overlay – Create new overlays with text or media. Overlay Placements – Configure display settings for overlays. 1. All Overlays – View & Manage Existing Overlays This section displays all overlays you’ve created, similar to WordPress’s Posts or Pages dashboard. How to Use: Navigate to “All Overlays”. This shows a list of all overlays with their titles, status (Published/Draft), and publication dates. Use the “All dates” dropdown to filter by date (e.g., show overlays published in the last month). Click “Published” to see only live overlays. Bulk Actions: Select multiple overlays using checkboxes. Choose an action (e.g., Trash, Publish, or Move to Draft) from the Bulk Actions dropdown. Click Apply to execute the action. Quick Management: Edit- Click to modify an overlay’s content. Quick Edit- Change the title, slug, or status without leaving the dashboard. Trash- Delete an overlay (can be restored from the Trash later). 2. Add New Overlay – Create Custom Overlays This section works like the WordPress Post Editor, allowing you to design overlays with text, images, or embedded content. How to Use: Click “Add New Overlay”. Add a Title (e.g., “Limited-Time Offer”). Use the Content Editor in visual mode or text mode similar to WordPress posts. Publishing Options: Set the status to Draft (hidden) or Published (live) as per requirement. Click “Publish” to save. Example: You want to create a “Free Ebook Download” overlay. Title: “Get Your Free Guide!” Content: Add an image of the ebook. Write a short description (“Download our free marketing guide”). Insert a button linking to the download page. Publish immediately and set visibility to the Public. 3. Overlay Placements – Control When & Where Overlays Appear This section holds a list of overlay placements. Already created overlay placements can be edited or created using the ‘Add/edit overlay placement’ tab. Users can create new overlay placement using the ‘Add new Placement’ button. An overlay placement defines display rules—when, where, and how often overlays show up. How to Use: Navigate to “Overlay Placements” Title & Description Example: Title- “Homepage Welcome Overlay” Description- “Shows a discount popup on the homepage.” Status Active: Overlay will trigger based on rules. Inactive: Disabled (won’t show). Overlay Rotation Enable rotation to show different overlays randomly. Users can add overlays in a new line using the “+” button. Users can set the percentage of display in a random manner, Select overlay from drop-down and use any specific URL of the landing page when the pop-up is clicked. This will override the links rotation set in the Overlay Links section at the end. Example: Overlay 1 (50%): “Spring Sale” Overlay 2 (50%): “New Product Launch” Display Triggers Time on Page: 0 = Show immediately. 5 = Show after 5 seconds. Scroll Percentage: 50% = Show when the user scrolls halfway. Exit Intent: Enabled- Shows when the mouse moves toward the browser’s close button. Inactivity Timer: 10 = Show if the user is inactive for 10 seconds. Size & Appearance Size: Small, Medium (Default), Large. Background Color: Match your brand (e.g., #FF5733 for orange). Close Options Hide close icon: Forces interaction. Close when clicking outside: User can dismiss by clicking anywhere. Location Targeting Whole Site: Every page. Root Domain Only: Pages and posts of root domain only All Subdomains: Show on all the subdomains excluding the root domain. Users can select the page types whether it should display on pages or posts. Selected subdomains: Users can choose the pages type and subdomains from the subdomains list on the right Selected Posts: Only on selected URLs. Users can filter the posts using keywords field, date, and category/subdomain. Link Rotation (Dynamic URLs) If the overlay rotation is disabled or there are no URLs in the overlay rotation section, the URLs inserted here will be the landing pages for the overlay links. Example: 30% https://example.com/deal1 70% https://example.com/deal2 Example Scenario: You want a “10% Discount Popup” to appear: When? After 5 seconds OR if the user tries to leave. Where? Only on the homepage and checkout page. How Often? Rotate between two versions. Settings: Display After: 5 seconds + Exit Intent enabled. Location: Homepage & Checkout Page.
